The 2026 Lounge Awards, being the first Lounge Awards, were very influential Lounge Awards for the career of the creators of the Lounge Awards.
One fine morning, I walk into the eighth grade lounge to see McKinney Glazer with a list of different "awards" that should be given out to lounge kids. It was then that I decided that we would put on this ceremony at the end of the year.Â
The awards were mostly jokes, and they were all included in a survey, where nominations were made as to who should win. Another survey was later given to break the ties. Another survey was later given to break those ties. Surveys were arranged by McKinney Glazer.
After this had been done, Henry Gugliuzza began the slideshow, making graphs or leaderboards for each award, combining them all into a 70-slide slideshow with a top three leaderboard at the end, as well as a list of every award-winner for that year.
Simultaneously, Martin Kittleson was busy designing the trophy, starting with custom ones for each award, but budget and time didn't allow for that, so we switched to printing a grid of around 100 generic ones, half of which are still in Henry Gugliuzza's house.
On the day of the presentation, Henry Gugliuzza announced all the awards, and the presentation was a great success. We knew we had to do it again the next year, and hopefully a year after that, but that's a story for later.
